In winter months, it is essential to keep your koi pond from completely freezing over. When layers of ice form over the surface of fish ponds, they allow harmful gases to build up which result in harmful side effects for your fish. The simplest way of preventing this is by using a pond heater or deicer during the winter time. These devices are not used to heat your pond water completley, rather they are designed to heat the water directly around them in order to create a small hole in the ice. An opening in the ponds surface will allow the release of toxic gas out of your pond and keep your fish healthy.

A unique floating pond heater that keeps a hole free of ice allowing toxic gases to escape throughout the winter. The breather hole through the center of the dome can also be used for feeding your fish. Just plug in your de-icer and float it in your pond dome side up. If your pond is already ice covered, drill a hole with an ice auger and place de-icer over the hole. Do not chop through the ice in smaller ponds as the shock waves can damage or kill your fish. Try to position your de-icer within arm's reach of shore to avoid walking on thin ice. Heater will not harm pond liners or plastic ponds. Recommended for ponds up to 1000 gallons. Please use two heaters for ponds over 1000 gallons or for ponds requiring extra gas exchange due to excessive plant decay or large quantities of fish under the ice. Unit measures 12" Diameter.
