1.
Dig a hole 6-18 inches deep in an area receiving at
least six hours of daily sunlight. A low area or poorly
drained area is ideal. You can also use a site next
to a water garden or pond where it's easy to keep the
bog garden's soil moist. |
| 2.
Spread liner over the hole. Pierce the liner every 3
feet or so with a garden fork. Spread 1-2 inches of
pea gravel on the bottom of the hole. Trim the liner
to conceal it under the soil's surface. |
|
|
|
3.
Build a dam of earth while you are digging or make one
from rocks. Position the dam between the bog and water
garden. Place the liner against the rocks to prevent
soil from washing into the water garden. Leave holes
in the dam or insert PVC pipe to create a passage for
the water. |
| 4.
Fill the bog with high-quality, moisture-retentive topsoil.
Insert the water plants of your choice and water them
well. Fertilize periodically with compost. |
